A Pleasant Start to 2006

Well I hope 2006 is a huge year for everyone and that the crazies have a quiet year for a change and leave all the current madness to mother nature. I think she is finally taking revenge.

And speaking of beautiful women, I managed to finish my interviews with both Stella Stevens and Terry Moore, two of Hollywood's most glamorous, who both still look stunning today. They will certainly have pride of place when I finally get my book finished. I also did a small signing with Stella but have a much larger one planned in the next few months. She is a wonderful signer and looks after her fans. I did the interview with Terry Moore via snail mail, which always makes it more difficult to exact any spontaneity, but her letter was vibrant and writing echoes her style and flair. Both women are incredibly strong characters who have always gone their own way and backed their choices in life. A minor trivia point is that back in the 60s a pimply young lass used to work as a maid for Stella. Her name is Kitten Natividad. She speaks very highly of Stella and remembers her wonderful dinner parties.

I should also have my signing with Bob Bergen arriving shortly. He is a terrific voice-over actor and is best known for Porky Pig, Tweetie and Marvin the Martian. He often works with another cool signer, Bill Farmer. Check out Bob on his website sometime. Tina Louise was also kind enough to sign 10 photos for me. I'm also expecting my signings with the delectable Tamie Sheffield and Carrie Anne Fleming, two beautiful and delightful people. Several other signings are in the planning stage and I will update you as they become solid.

On another front I have been exploring MySpace, which is a fun place, which can be enjoyed on many levels and is a terrific spot for checking out new music especially from Indie bands and singers. It's great for networking, making friends and actually keeping in touch with friends. If you like a bit of fun and humour or even being a little irreverent it gives you the chance to do your own blogs easily and to comment on other peoples blogs on a range of subjects and categories...some people have very simple webpages and some pages would make Da Vinci smile... I've been having a lot of fun with a few people and even found an online bridge partner, which should be some fun too. Well worth a check for anyone from 16-60... And especially good for writers, poets, musos and painters.

I was hoping to get some feedback here and some ideas, thoughts and questions, but I suppose it is still early days yet, but please feel free to drop your toe in the water. I won't bite and am always interested in hearing from you.

I was asked about eBay and I have friends who hate the site and others who like it. They all agree that most of the stuff sold there is crap. So do I, but I do, and have for years, bought items from dealers I trust there and from their websites or directly from them. These are nearly all, in person, dealers with good records and fine reputations. They put in a lot of hard work and do a great job and it is a shame that they have to sell on the same site where so much crap is sold. I would never put someone off buying on eBay, but would contantly remind them to study the dealers closely and look at their records and if they answer your questions (and ask as many as you need to ask) Look at their affiliations and amke up your own mind. There is one dealer who I buy certain items from because I know the source, and I buy stuff from his vintage collections. Would I buy any of his modern stuff...oh, about 10% no more...and I follow the rule that the "buyer beware" no matter who the person might be...I have a friend in NY who buys high end items all the time and has found himself with a few fakes over the years. Most of them are very good fakes...but he has rarely been out of pocket, because the dealers he buys thru have always provided refunds when this has happened. He has been annoyed, but always relieved. No matter what, the time you put in, the research you do, reflects how successful a collector you will be, and how good your collection will one day become....
