November news

Another busy week has passed, but not a huge amount to report...

I was chatting to a friend from Melbourne about dealers on eBay and the talk turned to Markus Brande's brilliant site: http://www.isitreal.com/

This is a site well worth visiting and on the matter of eBay he has a list of suspect eBay dealers which all collectors should save to their email and check regularly so you don't get caught out.

There are also lots of great articles about preprints, secretarials and other important info which is well worth learning about as well as some useful links.

When you have finished on this site then trip on over to: http://www.autographs101.com/
This site is also a valuable resource centre which charges a small annual fee...

The biggest problem for me is that the signature database could be larger, and there are a number of free sites which you can get good value out of:

http://www.autographworld.com/sigs/search2.asp

http://www.jnautographs.com/authentication.htm

http://www.historyforsale.com/html/default.asp

http://www.silverscreenautographs.com/

http://www.rrauction.com/browse.cfm?SearchCrit=nick%20adams

Please note that the last three links aren't actually databases, but these three dealers offer huge resources and reliable source material for checking your items...and with R&R Auctions make sure you click on their "search previous auction" button which will give you nearly 5 years worth of exemplars of every major star on the planet...

I am currnetly working on getting some terrific new stock from some up and coming actresses as well as some new material from Blaze Starr and Lana Wood. Blaze has been battling some severe heart problems this year and hopefully she will be fit and well again soon. Lana is a wonderful lady and has a heart of gold. And she is a real trooper with autograph hunters. I soon hope to have some stunning signed photos from the lovely and extreme(ly) sports oriented Tamie Sheffield as well as the beautiful Vancouver actress, Carrie Anne Fleming.

Tamie is known for her love of extreme sports and has done a lot of hosting on TV as well as movies and TV shows...

Carrie Anne is currently doing a horrific turn in Masters of Horror...

I hope to have more news soon and also look forward to getting some feedback from readers about their experiences or thoughts on autograph collecting. I will certainly add any cool links or addresses here...

Authenticity and Databases....

It's been a busy week, and I thought I would catch up with everyone with just some general news...

I put in a photo of Clark Gable here for a couple of reasons...

I use various websites to identify and verify signatures as I go along....
I save these pictures to my hard disk and then gradually burn them to cds to build up a database. I might save the jpg item above as: sample gable 1R&R to indicate that I viewed it at R&R Auctions. I only save clearly marked signatures from reputable dealers (or mark them FAKE if they seem to be and a note of which dealer was selling them) One day I plan to get around to saving them all on to one accessible DVD that can be viewed on both computers and TVs...

However, at the moment my priorities are paying my bills and working towards my first book (DVD) of interviews...to that end of have pursuing some more this week. Connie Stevens was kind enough to answer my questions recently and I have just completed a draft of that article and I am also working on another one with answers which were provided (by mail) by Terry Moore the vivacious former wife/lover of Howard Hughes...

Like chasing authentic autographs I spend a lot of time trying to track down new interviewees and often a lot of work and research goes in and nought comes of it...however it is a good learning experience and keeps me off the streets... I am hoping to add a few up and coming actors to my interviews in the coming months and will let you know their names as each one comes to fruition...if anyone knows info for good interviews then you can email me thru my website, which has my email details...at some stage I am going to have to teach myself how to transfer these articles (and 100s of photos) to a DVD that will play on both computers and TVs so that readers can get the best out of it...so if anyone has some skills in this department or knows of good sites for learning these skills then I would be happy to hear from you...I would definitely like to make it so the DVD has hotlinks etc to be able to use keywords etc so readers can skip from one article to another when the subject matter warrants it... I am one of these people who only masters something on the computer as I need to...I'd make some bird and excellent parrot someday...but there is a lot to be said for learning by rote...before the brain rots that is...

Oh, and I picked up this address during the week that may be worthwhile following up:
And remember to write a nice letter or note and add return postage etc...
Mr Caan has always been an excellent signer as well as a fine actor...and I believe he is really suffering from working with all those wardrobe deprived girls starring on Las Vegas...

James Caan PO Box 6646 Denver, CO 80206-0646

In the meantime I'm back working on the keyboard hammering out some new material and getting ready to scan and list new autographs here and there...but I will put my thinking cap on and try and put some more info into my next blog...and believe me feedback and ideas are more than welcome...
